Michael's mom sent me a few bottle caps recently. The new shipment, along with a few crowns from my stash, are going to make for some fun posts coming up.

Today I wanted to talk about Shiner. I've talked about the awesome ram bottle cap here and the ruby redbird here. But I haven't really talked about their standard Shiner caps, which happen to have amusing phrases on them (and you know I love a good phrase or slogan.)

Hefeweizen's bottle cap has the great and succinct phrase "It's Good!" and Oktoberfest has "Make a Toast." Something else very cool about these caps are the sides: Oktoberfest says "Twist and Toast!" and Hefeweizen says "Twist and Enjoy," which is cool because a) these are twist-off crowns (and you won't ruin the cap with a bottle opener) and b) there are fun phrases on the sides. I mean, come on!

I'm now realizing that Shiner has quite a variety of crowns, and I'm sure there are more than what I have. If my faithful readers have additional phrases from Shiner caps,  or other Shiners that they want to send my way, let me know in the comments.

It has been hot in New York City. Granted, it's not as hot here as it was in Austin when I was there (or even when I was in the Midwest), but when you live in a city where everything stinks (the garbage, the sweaty people who press up against you in the subway), 90 degrees and high humidity can be a real bummer.

One of the bottle caps I got when I arrived in St Louis was Shiner's Ruby Redbird, which looks like an amazing beer: it's made with grapefruit and ginger. That sounds incredibly refreshing on a hot summer day. So it makes sense that the bottle cap advertises "the perfect summer beer."

I would not put this bottle cap on par with Shiner's Goat (or sheep, or whatever animal it is!) but it is a rather nice crown.

I'll have to see if I can find Shiner Ruby Redbird in my neighborhood. So far I haven't been able to find any. If you know where I can get these beers in the NYC area, let me know! I'll even take it on tap!

It's well established that I favor an animal on a bottle cap. So, yeah, Shiner is right in my wheelhouse.

Shiner is brewed at the Spoetzl Brewery (named after Kosmos Spoetzl), located in Texas between San Antonio and Houston. Is it weird that I think of Cosmo Kramer and Spatzel when you put those two names together? Cosmo eating Spatzel. Why wasn't that an episode of Seinfeld? (Or was it?!?!)

Anyway, back to the cap. It's not quite a farm animal (read: sheep) but it comes pretty darn close. Bright colors, bold image. It's, well, pretty awesome, something I'd want to look at again and again. I don't know if it's kosher to blog about two hall of fame caps in one week but what can I do? Michael did a great job of bringing home the goods from his trip. And frankly, this is my blog and I can do what I want! Right?! Shiner, you are officially HOF. Congratulations! I say celebrate by having some Spatzel and watching some Seinfeld!
